Regional Research Fellowship Scheme - APPLICATIONS CLOSED

 

The NSW Regional Cancer Network is now calling for applications for Regional Research Fellowships.

 

The purpose of the Regional Research Fellowship scheme is to build translational cancer research by increasing research capacity and capability across the geographical area covered by the Central Coast, Hunter New England, Mid-North Coast and Northern NSW Local Health District boundaries.

 

This scheme is aimed at supporting both clinicians and researchers, including basic scientists, working in regional areas to undertake translational cancer research within their own institutions, and to contribute to the broader goals of the Network.

 

Eligibility

 

For applicants to be considered for funding, they must meet the following eligibility criteria:

 

  • Be a NSW Regional Cancer Research Network member, click here to join
  • Be engaged in any form of health care delivery or cancer research (including basic research, clinical research, population-based research, translational research.
  • Propose to undertake their research project within one of the Network’s four LHD geographical areas. Please note that 'LHD' refers to the geographic boundaries of the Network; applicants do not need to be currently employed by an LHD or institution within these areas to apply.

o   Successful applicants must hold an appointment at the employing institution for the full duration of the Fellowship (1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026). The Fellowship may include salary support during this period, up to a maximum of 0.8 FTE.

  • Provide evidence from the relevant Director/Head of Department of the employing institution stating support for the applicant to engage in the research outlined in this application (e.g. letter of support)
  • If the Host Institution where the research project will be undertaken is different from the applicant’s current employing institution, applications must also be endorsed by the authorised delegate of the Host Institution. 

 

Support Available

The Regional Research Fellowship award is a maximum of $100,000 for 12 months. Funding is permitted a maximum of 0.8 FTE salary costs of the Fellow (if required) and direct research costs (salary and/or non-salary) as outlined in a budget submission.

 

The Network will also provide access to a Senior Research Partner (SRP) who can assist in developing and implementing the research project and support Fellows to maximise the impact of their work. Up to two Fellowships may be awarded in 2025.

 

Successful applicants must commence the fellowship by 1 July 2025 and complete it by 30 June 2026. These dates are fixed due to external funding timeline requirements, and no extensions will be possible. These constraints are set by the funding body and are outside the control of the administering organisation.
