About us
The NSW Regional Cancer Research Network exists to build cancer research capacity within regional New South Wales.
People affected by cancer in regional NSW often face greater barriers to care, fewer opportunities to participate in research, and poorer health outcomes than those living in major cities. Addressing this inequity requires strong, locally driven cancer research led by the clinicians and researchers who know their communities best.
Our primary focus is supporting and developing regional researchers and clinicians to design, lead and deliver high-quality cancer research that directly improves care for people living with cancer in regional areas.
Connecting cancer research across regional NSW
The Network brings together clinicians, researchers, cancer services and people with lived experience of cancer from across our partner Local Health Districts:
- Central Coast
- Hunter New England
- Mid North Coast
- Northern NSW
By connecting expertise across these regions, we support cancer research that is informed by local health service realities, patient experiences and community needs.
Supporting regional cancer researchers and clinicians
Our work is centred on regional research capacity building, including:
- Developing research skills and leadership among regional clinicians and researchers
- Supporting locally driven clinical and translational cancer research
- Increasing access to research participation for regional communities
- Enabling research that can be rapidly translated into regional clinical practice and beyond
Through collaboration and shared infrastructure, we help regional teams address cancer research questions that arise directly from their own health services.
Improving equity through regional cancer research
By strengthening regional cancer research capacity, the Network is working to improve equity in cancer outcomes across regional NSW. Research generated in and for regional communities leads to more relevant evidence, better care pathways, and improved outcomes for people affected by cancer.
Funded to build stronger regional cancer research
The NSW Regional Cancer Research Network is funded by the Cancer Institute NSW through a Translational Cancer Research Capacity Building Grant. This funding supports the development of regional cancer research and the translation of research findings into improved care for people affected by cancer.

Acknowledgement of Country
We acknowledge the many Traditional Custodians of Country throughout regional, rural and remote NSW and honour their Elders, families and descendants, past and present.
We recognise and respect their cultural heritage, beliefs, and deep and continuing relationship with the land and waterways, and acknowledge that they are the proud survivors of more than two hundred years of dispossession.
