NSW Regional Cancer Research Network Announces Successful 2023 Clinician Research Fellowships

The NSW Regional Cancer Research Networkis pleased to announce the successful recipients of the 2023 Clinician Research Fellowships. These fellowships aim to build translational cancer research capacity and capability, and will support clinical staff located at regional sites to undertake impactful research within their health services.

The Clinician Research Fellowship scheme, funded through a Translational Cancer Research Capacity Building Grant from the Cancer Institute NSW, seeks to increase research capacity and capability across northern NSW – in the areas included in the Central Coast, Hunter New England, Mid-North Coast, and Northern NSW Local Health Districts.

Each Fellow will receive support for a NSW regional translational cancer research project that demonstrates the potential for rapid improvements in cancer treatment, outcomes, or service delivery.

Congratulations to the recipients of the Clinician Research Fellowships:

Dr. Sunil Rai, Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital, Hunter New England Local Health District. Project: Assessing the feasibility and clinical and patient-reported impacts of the use of ctDNA testing in adjuvant breast cancer: A rural pilot study.

A/Prof. Jennifer Schneider, University of Newcastle, Hunter New England Local Health District. Project: Developing a pathway for implementing therapeutic drug monitoring of anticancer drugs, for regional and rural patients to improve outcomes.

Dr. Sarah Zardawi, Breast Cancer Trials, Hunter New England Local Health District. Project: Telehealth remote pre-screening to increase regional and remote patient access to the Breast Cancer Trials (BCT) CAPTURE trial.

Professor Nikola Bowden, Chief Investigator of the NSW Regional Cancer Research Network, said " The Clinician Research Fellowships provide research support for exceptional clinicians in regional NSW. Their research will contribute to improving cancer outcomes and driving positive change in cancer care in our regions.  I can’t wait to see what they achieve."

 

The NSW Regional Cancer Research Network is funded by the Cancer Institute NSW through a Translational Cancer Research Capacity Building Grant and established through NSW Regional Health Partners.
